Innibos National Craft Awards curators nominated for kykNET Fiësta award
ArtAid Africa’s John Anthony Boerma and Jan Bhuda have been nominated for a kykNET Fiësta Best Achievement in Visual Arts Award, as curators of the Innibos National Craft Awards.
“Jan, my National Innibos Craft Awards co-organiser, and I are thrilled to receive this nomination, which underscores our passion towards supporting the country’s many incredible crafters.
“We launched the awards to give South African crafters an opportunity to showcase their work while simultaneously celebrating their excellence in skill, diversity, innovation and creativity. Our domestic crafters deserve to be lauded and we hope this nomination will in some small way shine a spotlight on the brilliance that characterises this segment of visual arts,” says Boerma.
ArtAid Africa specialises in the facilitation and development of visual art in local communities.
The kykNET Fiësta Awards annually honour exceptional work presented at arts festivals across the country during the previous year.
In 2020, the performing arts were under enormous pressure because of the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the festival circuit. The 11th kykNET Fiësta Awards thus celebrates the arts and artists who persevered during this trying time.
The Innibos National Craft Awards had to adapt to the pandemic and held a virtual exhibition and announcement of winners, instead of the traditional event that takes place in Mpumalanga’s capital city of Nelspruit each June.
Due to lockdown regulations, the kykNET Fiësta Awards ceremony will only be presented as a television broadcast this year. It will not take place in front of a live theatre audience as usual.
The awards will be broadcast on 7 March at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144).
